Nov 17, 2008 This Is INSANE! Two Top Stars OUT!

That’s right two of the show’s top stars are OUT at Days.

SoapOperaDigest.com is confirming what has been rumored all weekend:
It’s hard to believe, but it’s true: Superstars Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (John) are the first two casualties of DAYS’s massive budget cuts. In an exclusive interview with Soap Opera Digest, Executive Producer Ken Corday says, “The couple will be happily reunited after a long period of angst and separation and will be off-screen after January for an unknown period of time. It was a very tough decision to make.” To see what else the exec has to say about the popular duo — and the show’s recent pickup by NBC — be sure to pick up the next issue of Digest.

The backstage drama of 2008 continues!

Well there you have it, buzz is also circulating that Blake Berris (Nick) has been let go from the show but can you really be surprised?  Higley has wrote the character into  corner with all his stalker moves as of late.  I can’t wait to see how this affects the ratings because it won’t be too pretty.

Nov 14, 2008 The 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards In Trouble?

So the buzz on the web is that the 36th Daytime Emmy Awards might not see the light of day this year.  There are currently only 2 of the 3 big networks (ABC, CBS & NBC) that broadcasts the show.  NBC stopped airing the Emmy’s years ago when it became apparent that the majority of their talent were not receiving any nominations (when most of them should have) except one or two every so often.

This year was CBS’s turn to air the awards ceremony and they have opted to not broadcast The Daytime Emmy’s which threw ABC for a loop seeing as it wasn’t their year so they probably scheduled everything for their shows accordingly.  It’s not known at this moment what will happen (if they make seek another network to air the show or not) but we’ll keep you updated.  I think Shelley has done an amazing job with her material and some of it can at least get her a pre-nomination if not the nomination as well as Rachel (Chelsea).

Nov 12, 2008 Days Gets Renewed!

Wonderful news for all you Days fans… As per Variety the Peacock’s lone sudser has gotten a new deal that will allow the show to stay on the air through 2010and possibly go into 2011!  Here are the details below - beware it’s very lengthy.

Also Stephanie is back on our screens today!

NBC has inked a deal with Sony Pictures TV to extend its run of daytime sudser “Days of Our Lives.”

But in a sign of uncertain times for the daytime soap biz, the Peacock’s pickup runs just 18 months. The previous renewal pact between Sony and Corday Prods. had a five-year term.

NBC’s current deal for “Days of Our Lives” was set to expire in March, which means the new arrangement will keep the soap on the network only through September 2010. However, it’s understood that another year will be triggered if certain perameters on the show are met. That would keep “Days” on the air through September 2011.

Shortened renewal comes as the economics of daytime TV — particularly soap operas — continue to sour. NBC has gradually eliminated most of its daytime sudsers, most recently moving “Passions” to DirecTV (before eventually pulling the plug on that show altogether).

The reup also comes despite rumblings from NBC Universal topper Jeff Zucker a few years ago that “Days of Our Lives” might not be renewed at all. More recently, Zucker hasn’t been as vocal about a “Days” cancellation, although the short renewal could signal that NBC’s long-term daytime plans may not include sudsers.

It’s unclear whether NBC also negotiated a reduced license fee for the show. The Peacock was most recently shelling out $1.7 million-$1.8 million a week for the show.

As part of the renewal it’s understood that the show, led by exec producer Ken Corday, will be making some onscreen changes as well, including some cast shuffles.

Season-to-date “Days of Our Lives” is tied for third place in the daypart among women 18-49 and is tied as the No. 1 show in women 18-34.

SoapNet holds same-day repurposing rights for “Days,” which is also available for download via Apple’s iTunes.

The soap is celebrating its 43rd anniversary. [Variey]

Nov 10, 2008 L.A. Times Set Visit

L.A. Times David Strick did a Set Visit with Days Of Our Lives and he captured a ton of wonderful candid shots.  I’ve added 6 of Shelley who looks simply amazing in the shots with Jay, Molly, Stephen & Mary Beth.  Some may be a little spoilery - but if you read Soap Opera Digest/Weekly Steph will soon be putting her intern training to the test at Titan with Phillip.  I’m really digging the chemistry between Shelley and Jay… what their pairing name would be I have no idea.

Nov 10, 2008 Happy 43rd Anniversary Days!

Nov 06, 2008 Shelley’s Interview With Michael Fairman

Michael Fairman | On Air On Soaps was recently at the “Day of Days” Event interviewing various cast members of the show and he finally got a chance to meet the alluring Shelley Hennig.  Here’s what Mr. Michael said on his site:

“Shelley Hennig and I finally met! She was scheduled to attend “Soaps In The City” and told me she had a last minute conflict, so this was our first encounter. AND we discussed her being a former Miss Teen USA and Govenor Sarah Palin’s beauty queens days!”

To view the clip of Shelley and Michael visit his media gallery here.  We should have caps of it at a later date.
