How gorgeous does she look?! Shelley has a roundtable interview with various media outlets (Shine On Media took this amazing footage) at the Day Of Our Lives set in preparation for the Day Of Days Event! She speaks very candidly about how she misses her on-screen parents Mary Beth Evans (ex-Kayla) and Stephen Nichols (ex-Steve “Patch”). I love what she had to say about Wes Ramsey (ex-Owen) and they seriously had some light the bed on fire chemistry! As much as I love they’re testing the waters of Stephanie & Nathan – we all know how that’s going to end because his heart just really isn’t in it from my standpoint so bring someone on that is hot and only has eyes for our girl Steph. That’s all I want.

Also, I don’t know if you’ve heard about this or not but Mr. Stephen Nichols has managed to book himself a very high profile gig on the number one rated soap opera for the past 20+ years, The Young & The Restless! He’s the recast for Tucker McCall ( he takes over for William Russ; but I read he was who they originally had wanted for the role).

The staff of SSO would like to wish Ms. Shelley a very wonderful birthday on this joyous day. We hope all your wishes come true as you grow another year older and wiser.

This is by far one of my favorite in-depth interviews Shelley has ever done. It speaks volumes of her experience on the show and how she’s still shaping herself to become a legend, we all know she can achieve that! You can also sense the deep connection/respect she feels/has for Stephen (ex-Patch) and Mary Beth (ex-Kayla) her TV parents.

We Love Soaps was on the set of DAYS OF OUR LIVES recently and had the chance to speak with several members of the cast including Shelley Hennig (Stephanie). In this interview Hennig discusses how Stephanie has changed over time, the rape storyline, her first day on set, and more.

We Love Soaps: In the short time you’ve been playing the role of Stephanie, she has been through a lot.
Shelley Hennig: A lot. Starting with the broken heart of Jeremy…

We Love Soaps: How did you approach playing the role in that story?
Shelley Hennig: There are different ways. It’s kind of secretive, [but] you use certain things. I’ve never had to go through something like that so you use other things that brought in that same guilt and disgust, desperation, and shame. I would pull from my imagination a lot. Noel Maxam was one of our directors and producers and he was great. He would just say one word and I was there. But I broke down the scripts and did what I learned in acting school. It was 5,4,3,2 – camera. I had to pull if off and I did in one take.

We Love Soaps: What would it look like to see the Steve Johnson come out in Stephanie?
Shelley Hennig: Hopefully we will see in the next couple of months. I think she’s battling being her mother and being her father. Stephanie has all these morals, and she’s perceived as this good girl. But she’s been through so much it’s starting to go out the window. She cannot be that good girl anymore because she’s not going to get what she wants. A part of her starts to use a Steve mentality, thinking, “How am I going to get what I want?” It may cause some morals going out the window. But there’s still that genuineness and vulnerability that she’s battling in her own head.

We Love Soaps: That makes it all worth it.
Shelley Hennig: Totally! Because we do put ourselves through a lot of emotional distress. My body doesn’t know the difference. I know the difference. When I leave here I know I don’t have this crazy life as Stephanie Johnson. But your body doesn’t know the difference. So I’ll go home and get indigestion from crying so much or a headache. I think Rachel Melvin [Chelsea] is the same way. She would put her heart and her soul into every scene. And that’s the way I am. I can’t do it half way. It’s all or nothing.

Soap Opera Source was another media outlet that interviewed the cast of Days and this is their Q&A session. Shelley digs deep and takes you in on her journey that led to her becoming the strong actress she is today – plus we get a little insight as to what will be coming up in November.

What is like playing a young member of a legendary daytime family?

Well at first, I did not know. I knew nothing of the soap opera world. But I found out soon after! The thing about me is things never really set in. I mean, I had to relocate. I was in New York and my first audition, I book a contract, so all these crazy things happened, along with Miss Teen USA back in 2004 – I never expected to win that thing. I knew nothing about that world – and it never really set in. I kind of just adapt so I think that’s what I did with Steve and Mary Beth, I just adapted. I didn’t have all this pressure. I just adapt to things. I never had that moment where, “Oh my god, this just happened to me,” and I almost wish I did because then I would know how cool it was.

What’s it like working with someone like Peggy McKay?

Oh, I love Peggy! She is phenomenal and she is so 100%. Even in the scenes that are not our favorite and when a lot of people are involved and we get a little playful on set she just is there, and ready, emotionally and so focused. I look up to her a lot for that.

How do you feel about Melanie’s relationship with both Nathan and Philip?

I hate it. I mean, Stephanie hates it [laughing]. No, I think it’s great. I love the whole fighting back and forth. Stephanie usually gets what she wants and things go sour and she tries again. I think currently she’s going to try whatever she can to get what she wants whether that’s Nathan or Philip, we don’t know.

Right now Stephanie seems to be on the outside looking in on this triangle.

Yeah, because both of them are both going hard for Melanie, but I think she’s really pulling Nathan. And I think maybe it’s because she doesn’t want Melanie to get what she wants.
